Here's a little peak at one or two things I've been working on recently. The first is called "dogsbody dancing shoes" which I still feel like i need to add an extra something to, but can't decide what. The second is a Dragonfly which someone asked me to draw for them. enjoy!

Sneak Peek.
I know I know. I need to start updating my blog more. I've been so busy setting up my etsy and moving home I guess I forgot about this space. Anyway, as promised in the title of this post a sneak peak! I'm currently working on something, it's a bit of an experiment so it could go horribly wrong... but let's not be pessimistic. So here it is so far, the skull anatomy of a she-lion.
Other news! I was featured in this edition of Digital Arts! Harassing people by email finally paid off. I'm so chuffed and it's so nice to actually see your work in print. I apologise for the awful mug shot, it was kind of last minute and I'm an awful subject for photos.
I know, it's not done but I'm getting there. So what's the experiment you ask? It looks a bit dull you say? This is one of three layers which incorporate different levels of anatomy, bones, muscle and skin. I'll be trying to illustrate all three into one image. Once I get more done. you'll see what I mean and hopefully it'll look top notch.
So, how has everybody's week been? Is anyone working on something fun?

Tobermory
I've not updated for a while because, although I have a lot of sketches to show everybody, I don't have a scanner to get them on my computer! What a shame! Anyway I managed to borrow Joe's scanner to get started on my Tobermory piece, so here it is!

The music on the hill.
So, here's what I intend to do with the face of Pan. I still need to include insects and colour everything. This is just a rough plan, just to see if it actually works. I also had the idea to turn it into a sort of mock 'festival poster' by putting text along the top and the bottom but I'll play around with that after I've finished the line work and added the colour in. So far so good, eh? Any helpful advice would be appreciated. Thanks for looking! Click the image for a closer look.

The first face of Pan.
So, I've decided to do something compleatly foreign to me. I've decided to draw most elements from a piece of artwork separately. Its based on a story called "The music on the hill" by Saki, which features the god Pan, the god of the wilderness, flocks, shepherds and animals etc etc. It's an odd tale in which Pan takes the form of a young boy hidden in bushes and plants to torment a woman.
SO, the central part with be his face and then I will build up brambles and thorns and vines and insects around it. Hopefully it'll turn out super. Here's his face so far-

Hornet
Something I did as part of a tutorial which is just teaching me how to use certain elements of photoshop to make the way I work a lot easier. A lot of masking, texturing... yadda yadda yadda. I figured I'd upload it anyway. It's not neat or anything I'm particularly proud of but I might come back to it at some point and touch it up. Who knows.

Something wicked this way comes.
So, I have finished playing with my blog layout for now. I'll probably return to tweaking it at some point, it still doesn't have the 'look' I want it to. Not that I really know what that 'look' is.
Recently my work has taken a turn, I've started toobsessively draw really enjoy working with flowers, insects and animals. They're not necessarily realisitic illustrations but I do use a lot of anatomy books for reference. I tend to half draw from diagrams and photographs and then half 'make-up' plants and insects. I've also been increasing my knowledge of photoshop and experimenting with that. I'm quite a novice and rather embarrassed about not being very good yet, so I won't divulge too much of that. You'll have to wait until I'm a pro to find out about my photoshop experiments. Anyway, here's one of my latest concoctions for you to take a gander at.

Change is coming.
I hope to re-vamp my blog layout and graphics soon, so here's a sneak peak at my header so far. :)
I've also scanned in some pages from my sketchbook so you can all take a gander at what I've been up to recently. Only a few as I don't want to give away all of my secrets now do I?

Botanical Borders
Two of the botanical borders I have been working on recently. They're going to be used to frame my Ugly young woman and Handsome young man. I haven't decided whether to colour them or not yet, I'll see what they look like when I combine them with the other images. Enjoy! Click for larger images.

I'm currently working on an image for the Swarovski Crystals competition. So I thought I'd give you all a sneak peak. I'm quite far from finished but here it is so far:

What trouble. The Handsome Young Man.
The line work for a piece I have yet to colour/edit, it's taken me far too long to upload new work, it's a pain when your scanner breaks eh? Anyway, there should be more to come pretty soon when I get access to a scanner again. Just an idea of what I've been up to and where I seem to be heading recently. This piece goes along side The Ugly Young Woman, along with some other images.

The Ugly Young Woman. Merz Fairy Tales.
So so so! It's been a while, I'll try my best to update my blog more in the future. Anyway, I have some sketches from my moleskine and my line work so far for one of my images for this Merz project. After reading the story and going round in circles for a while I got an idea about what to do, a series of images. Always a good starting point. The images will be a visual representation of the story, and the messages behind beauty, focusing on the idea that what is beautiful to someone isn't necessarily beautiful to another and vice-versa what is ugly to someone isn't necessarily ugly to someone else. Please click to enlarge.
I still need to thicken up some of the lines, maybe add more details and such but here's the line work so far, it will be coloured and textured digitally.
