Moon baby

So, Hello all!
Firstly, I apologise for the radio silence for what seems to be quite a long time... I'm currently working two jobs, & then trying to illustrate on top of that. I spend most of my time feeling tired or grumpy but it really makes me realise just how much I want to turn my art into a career. I'm exploring some other avenues after speaking with some very talented artists who have been so incredibly helpful to me. I love that even well known and busy artists as so willing to help out newbies such as myself. The best way to learn is to ask people who have been in your position and people who have been in your position know just how tough it is.
I really respect anyone who has created a career out of their art, a career enough to live on in this business is such a fantastic feat. I hope to be one of you people.

Anyway, I'm currently working on something so I'd thought I'd show you all. Tell me what you think? I'm not too sure why, but in my half asleep - not quite on this planet - stupor I decided that it should be called "Moon baby" and saved it as such.

The bitten mouth

I'm currently working on two illustrations to be used as magazine covers for a friend. The first one I have completed is for "The bitten mouth" but the theme of the illustration also work with the secondary title "DeForest". Which title do you prefer? Personally I'm swayed towards DeForest, it just sounds enchanting to me. Anyway here you go.
The illustration is also available as a print in my Society6!

Volans

Another in the constellation series! Volans or "flying fish".

I'm unsure about the colour palette really... oh! and here's a sneak peak at something i'm working on.

Sneak Peak.

My current work in progress... I have noticed that my favourite and (in my opinion) best executed illustrations happen when I'm avoiding doing something else that is probably more important. Is this the case for other artists and creatives? I usually get a craving to draw and it just seems to happen. I'm not the sort of person to endlessly rehearse a drawing. I'm a very fast drawer and with the majority of my ink drawings I don't sketch it out first I just dive straight in with indian ink.
... anyway!

Recent works

Here's a little peak at one or two things I've been working on recently. The first is called "dogsbody dancing shoes" which I still feel like i need to add an extra something to, but can't decide what. The second is a Dragonfly which someone asked me to draw for them. enjoy!

Today I was featured in Computer Arts... as a man.

Well, I would like to clarify, I am female, I don't wear glasses and I most certainly do not have a beard! Today I popped to my local WHSmiths and picked up a copy of Computer Arts, I was pleasantly surprised to see my work in this issue! I knew they were publishing it but I didn't know when... but... then something struck me. Something about it wasn't quite right...

I burst out laughing in the middle of Smiths, so in a way Computer Arts have made my day but I'm surprised such a well known and respected magazine would make such a cock-up. Just incase people are wondering THIS is what I look like-

Anyway! If you would like to see the royal blunder in real life and have a good old chuckle and my gender misfortune you can see it in this issue -

Hope you all have a good week!

Sneak Peek.

I know I know. I need to start updating my blog more. I've been so busy setting up my etsy and moving home I guess I forgot about this space. Anyway, as promised in the title of this post a sneak peak! I'm currently working on something, it's a bit of an experiment so it could go horribly wrong... but let's not be pessimistic. So here it is so far, the skull anatomy of a she-lion.

I know, it's not done but I'm getting there. So what's the experiment you ask? It looks a bit dull you say? This is one of three layers which incorporate different levels of anatomy, bones, muscle and skin. I'll be trying to illustrate all three into one image. Once I get more done. you'll see what I mean and hopefully it'll look top notch.

Other news! I was featured in this edition of Digital Arts! Harassing people by email finally paid off. I'm so chuffed and it's so nice to actually see your work in print. I apologise for the awful mug shot, it was kind of last minute and I'm an awful subject for photos.

So, how has everybody's week been? Is anyone working on something fun?

Dandelion Badger

Just a look at something I've been working on recently. I'm really unsure about the colours but I've settled on these for now. I've been so busy these last few weeks, it's been so hectic. I finished my degree, put up my exhibition and now I've taken it back down again! I can't believe three years has passed, it only seems like yesterday that I was nervous about coming to Lincoln. Now I'm nervous about my future! It's so scary not knowing what's going to happen, where will I be living in a few months? Where will I be working? There's so much to think about, even the little stuff like changing doctors and throwing away old clothes seem like such a big deal. Anyway, at least drawing will be a permanent fixture in my life.

Sneak peek.

Just a sneak peek at a work in progress. It's something I'm doing to keep me active and as an extra for my online shop which I'll do a big "hey here's my shop" post about later on.
I've been watching a lot of ghibli films today, oh they fill me with so much joy!
Anyway, here's the gentleman hare.  Tell me what you think?

More insects

I've been trying to design  range of business cards recently. I really like the idea of having a few different types of business cards but I also wanted to keep them uniform. Anyway, here's what I've been playing with, quite simple and subtle but I'm rather pleased with how they've turned out!

Keeper of the bells.

So, I've not updated my blog for a long time. I've been so busy with finishing work and getting thing prepared to be printed for my portfolio. Anyway, during this I've found the time to complete another piece of work! It's for a competition, I need to sort that out too and fill out all of the forms. Time for bed though I think, it's been a long day. Here you go! Not quite finished, but, oh well. Too tired to care at the minute!

Mrs Packletide's Tiger

Another piece in the Saki series. Based on the story of "Mrs. Packeltide's Tiger". I'm still personally unsure about the orange but I'll leave it for now. Overall I think the colour pallet works quite well and I'm pretty pleased with the outcome. I'm still working on lots of images at the minute, I seem to have bits and pieces all over the place just waiting to be put together but I'm getting there! Click to make it larger, Any advice would be welcom!

Sneak peak.

I've been able to scan some more work recently, so here's some of my more recent stuff! I don't know what on earth I'm going to do when I don't have access to an A3 scanner anymore! Yes! These are A3 Sketches!
Anyway, I'm very fond of working in pencil, I really like the semitransparent nature to the lines which you don't really get with Indian Ink. I still have a lot to do on these specific pieces, but here's a sneak peek anyway! I've not fully set my mind on these colour pallets but I can tweak those later. I also need to add some decorative floral borders and actually colour the right hand image. Click to make them bigger!

Tobermory

I've not updated for a while because, although I have a lot of sketches to show everybody, I don't have a scanner to get them on my computer! What a shame! Anyway I managed to borrow Joe's scanner to get started on my Tobermory piece, so here it is!

The music on the hill.

I'm still thinking about adding text to make it look like a mock festival poster, but here is it so far. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The music on the hill.

So, here's what I intend to do with the face of Pan. I still need to include insects and colour everything. This is just a rough plan, just to see if it actually works. I also had the idea to turn it into a sort of mock 'festival poster' by putting text along the top and the bottom but I'll play around with that after I've finished the line work and added the colour in. So far so good, eh? Any helpful advice would be appreciated. Thanks for looking! Click the image for a closer look.

The first face of Pan.

So, I've decided to do something compleatly foreign to me. I've decided to draw most elements from a piece of artwork separately. Its based on a story called "The music on the hill" by Saki, which features the god Pan, the god of the wilderness, flocks, shepherds and animals etc etc. It's an odd tale in which Pan takes the form of a young boy hidden in bushes and plants to torment a woman.
SO, the central part with be his face and then I will build up brambles and thorns and vines and insects around it. Hopefully it'll turn out super. Here's his face so far-
